How to get started playing OSRS Mobile

Take your Gielinor adventures anywhere (within your home) with OSRS Mobile. Here's what you need to prepare for installation, as well as some worthwhile beginner activities to do. Have fun adventuring, skilling, leveling, or farming OSRS gold!

Device Requirements

The OSRS Mobile app requires Android 5 and above or iOS 10 and above. Its store page requires 6.7MB on Android devices and 118MB on Apple ones. However, free up at least 1 or 2 GB on your device storage, as the app may download additional files upon first opening it.

Generally, a majority of the current-gen phones will be enough to play the app. Some at the lower end may have a little trouble. Lowering or changing the settings of the game will make it smoother on those. Since the app is optimized for phones, it may not work as well for tablets. Sometimes it may not appear in the app stores of that device.

The game has an FAQ that lists the devices that have a problem with running the game. Please check it to see if your device is on the list.

Some Settings to Set

Get the most out of your device's battery life by using or changing these settings.

Lower your phone screen's brightness. It's one of the biggest drains on the battery charge. If you don't have to look so much or see what's happening in the game, dim it to prolong your phone's life.

Close apps running in the background. Even if you've pressed the home button, apps don't close. If they don't close, they're still using up the battery charge. Exit them by using the task manager to close them completely.

Use a battery saving mode. This is a setting most newer phones have. They optimize battery usage by restricting some apps from running in the background. It also manipulates some settings that eat up the battery.

Turn off the network setting you're not using. If you're using WiFi, turn off data. If you're using data, turn off WiFi. They use up charges by searching for a signal. Turn them off to keep them from leeching power from the battery.

Starting the Game

Now that you've downloaded the game, it's time to play! There are many things to do in Gielinor. But first, you should choose what you want to do. Certain servers (also called worlds) have special restrictions to challenge their players. Some are members only, others are PvP worlds, and a special few are for annual/seasonal game modes.

At any rate, whichever world you choose, you'll start out in Tutorial Island. Create your character avatar carefully, since it can be costly to change later. An NPC on the island called Paul can give restrictions on your account if you choose to.

Choosing to do so is choosing the 'Ironman Mode' where you cannot trade with other players or use the Grand Exchange. Some might choose to go a step further (Ultimate Ironman) and choose to restrict banking. Another variation, Hardcore Ironman, is when players only have one life. If they die, they get booted to Standard Ironman.

If you mistakenly or accidentally imposed those restrictions on yourself, talk to Adam in Lumbridge. He'll let you downgrade to an easier mode of play, albeit with a 7-day delay.

Other than that, you have the freedom to choose what to do! You can explore Gielinor, complete quests, challenge others in PvP, hunt all kinds of monsters, or choose calmer pursuits. Examples of calmer pursuits are farming, mixing potions, crafting or constructing things, and even fishing! Get used to the basics, and soon you can start farming OSRS gold. It'll open more doors as you gain more, from allowing you to buy better equipment to buying bonds.

The world of Gielinor is open, all you have to do is enter it. Have fun!
