How to Trade PoE Currency

And get rich (in-game) during the lockdown

If you've been playing Path of Exile all this time, you're surely in the endgame and wondering what's next. Well, there are the post-game challenges to do, of course! However, you'll have trouble completing them if you don't improve your gear and PoE build. To do that, you'll need to learn how to trade and use your PoE currency efficiently.

What is PoE currency?

Path of Exile doesn't have currency, per se. It runs on a barter system, where players and NPC vendors use crafting resources as currency. Those PoE items change various characteristics of gear, which is how you craft in the game.

Currency standards naturally rose from the barter system. Chaos Orbs became a 'silver standard' and Exalted Orbs the 'gold standard'. From those facts, you can figure out how much PoE uniques, as well as other orbs and crafting resources, are worth.

How Do You Trade in Path of Exile?

The game doesn't have a system or structure similar to an Auction House or trading hub. To trade with others, you have to meet the other player in-game and invite them to trade. With the world chat being a mess, it's hard to figure out who's selling what, and whether those items have been sold or not.

Fortunately, there is a way to get all the trading information you need. There are various PoE trade sites you can go to. Those sites have access to player Premium Stash Tabs. Players who want to sell stuff can put those items in the tab and set a price. You'll see that on the sites.

Once you want to buy an item, you can whisper to the player. If they're online, they'll invite your character to their hideout where you can trade. Make sure you brought the necessary orbs or items to trade with!

What If I Want to Sell, Too?

Well, you'll have to buy a Premium Stash Tab. Since it's a microtransaction item, it'll cost you some real-world money. Set the necessary permissions on your stash tab, then put in the items you want to sell. From there, you can set a uniform price on every item on the stash, or set prices individually. Done right, trade sites will log the items in that tab and make it searchable.

Wait for another to send a message that they're interested in buying your item. Invite them to your hideout and complete the trade.

And that's how you can easily trade with others in Path of Exile. Sure, it's not a perfect system. There could be missed timings and scams, for example. The only thing you can do is to practice caution and keep yourself safe.

You might find some sites trading PoE currency for real-world ones, but that's rather frowned upon. Of course, that's still your choice to do so or not. All we ask is that you enjoy the game in a way that's right for you.

How to Price Your Path of Exile Currency Stacks

Path of Exile is a game that challenges the traditional. Strength in Wraeclast isn't about getting the best equipment for your character's class; it's about building stats and skills to work together in a symphony of attacks that make all your enemies just fall at your feet. You can even choose what kind of pieces, from dismembered body parts to dust and ashes. However, the journey to get there is both long and hard, especially if the RNG feels cruel to you.

Thankfully, others are there to help. Despite the lack of an in-game monetary currency system, players have found PoE orbs to be a sufficient replacement. They're not a currency per se, but items with function. It's more barter and trade than the money-grubbing systems other MMOs have in place.

That being said, to help with trading some fans have taken the time to create a site (poe.trade) that players can check to see if someone is selling something of value. Another one for currency is also available and can be accessed via the mentioned link.

How to Price a Stack

One thing that might confuse new users to the site is how to set a price for a stack of Path of Exile currency. No matter what they do, they just can't seem to set a price for a stack. So how exactly do you do it?

What they don't know is that the site assumes a stack of any amount is one unit of the stack. Potential offers should then be labeled with this format: xx/yy currency or the simpler xx currency. In that format, xx is what you want to get, yy is what you're offering. The ‘currency' bit refers to what you want to get, so it corresponds to ‘xx'.

For example, you want to sell a thousand Chaos Orbs for a Regal Orb. You set a Chaos Orb on your listing and label it as ‘1/1000 regal'. After that, it should appear on the listings. It also works for bulk selling or buying, as the label ‘10/600' exalted on an Orb of Alteration means the player will pay 600 Alteration for 10 Exalted.

As for the simpler format, it works best when you want to ‘break down' rarer orbs into more common ones. Reversing the first example above, one Regal Orb priced at 1000 Chaos means they're selling a Regal Orb for 100 Chaos. It's that simple!

Additional Notes

These labels aren't applicable to the ‘Price' and ‘Exact Price' options on the site. They can only be used in the ‘Note' option and then typed manually. The simpler format is really just the former two options, so it's more convenient to use. That is unless you're trying to break down a stack as well.

Now that you know how to price PoE currency stacks, go forth and trade! You'll get even closer to your optimal character build with this information. It'll also streamline your trading endeavors since you won't have to go around screaming in the chaos of the world chat.

Path of Exile's Delve League Expansion and the Future

The Delve League started last August and will end in November. It introduced an endless dungeon in the form of the Azurite Mines. Players can delve as deep and as far as they want, collecting sweet loot and PoE currency along the way. They can also gather Azurite and VoltaxicSulphite to improve their equipment and items. The latter is for upgrading the Crawler, which guides players through the mysterious darkness that took over the mines.

The Reason for Delve

The idea was to keep players from dropping the game after completing the current league. An endless dungeon screams “complete me”. However, it's not going to be completely explored at all. It's in the name. Players would have to go back, try to improve their skills and equipment, just to reach the deepest level they can get to. Testing out your skills and reaching the most difficult levels, after all, make games worth playing.

The Problems

As it is with other updates, the Delve League also has its own flaws. For one, the VoltaxicSulphite(what the Crawler uses for fuel) nodes you get to gather are quite scarce. Without it, delving further would be impossible for players. Hence, they are forced to stop to collect the fuel elsewhere. It's jarring especially when you've finally reached your stride and are forced to an abrupt stop. Even if the dungeon is infinite, you can't explore it continuously.

Another constant problem is that too much delving saturates the PoE trading market with items from the mine. It's not much of a problem right now, though, because it's the current league mechanic. However, it would definitely be a different story if it goes core. For the uninitiated, that means making the current mechanics permanent.

Now, you may ask, ‘why is that a problem?'. Delve loot can devalue the future league's loot. They're going to be cheaper and easier to collect than loot from the current (at that point) league. That would cause players to be quite reluctant when challenging future mechanics.

There are more issues such as bugs, and eventually, it tends to become a grind. In general, though, players seem to be refreshed by the change of pace the Delve League brings.

The Solutions

If Delve is indeed going core, the developers should fix incessant issues that may potentially cause trouble for players—especially the loot problem. As it is, unique equipment currently seems a tad bit too common while delving. There are also complaints about how difficult it is to identify destructible walls and the fact that the Crawler moves independently of the player.

If it does end up in the core league, it could be an alternative to endgame or leveling. Otherwise, it could be an optional activity, a break from story quests, or something to do that's different from the usual. At any rate, the only thing we can do is wait for the official announcement. There's still about a month left before it ends, so continue enjoying Delve and Path of Exile!

Path of Exile: The Journey Continues - A Few Things That Beginners Would Find Useful

About a month ago, I started my journey through the foreboding world of Wraeclast, the setting for the highly popular, free-to-play Action-MMORPG, Path of Exile.

As a mature, distinguished gamer, I try my best to balance my many adult responsibilities with playing games, but Path of Exile has tested me on that balance. With the multitude of skills and equipment available, the interesting trading and currency system, tough enemies, map modifications and the HUGE passive skill tree, this game has me trying to find any time at all in my busy schedule to play it! You can find my first impressions, as well as my advice for beginners of the game here.

On that note, I thought I’d continue to share what quests, items, and currencies I think beginners should continue to look for on their way through the game. Today’s post covers my journey up to the Prison.

Masters Quests

Along the way, I met an interesting NPC named Haku, who gave me a quest to bring a spirit to him under some Haunted Grounds. I accepted the quest, beat down the baddies, got the strange red apparition and returned to the entrance to give to him. I received little in reward but noticed my reputation with him increased. I checked the forums and lo and behold I learned about Masters – important NPC’s who, after gaining several reputation levels, will allow the use of a personal hideout and unlock the ability to craft ultra-useful items that you can either use for yourself or trade with others to get even better gear! These kinds of quests should be on the radar for both beginners and veterans of the game alike, especially if you have items and orbs available to craft their unique wares.

Items and Currencies to Look Out For

As I continued towards the Prison, I’ve been on the lookout for any valuable orbs or items I can trade with vendors or with other players to get stronger and further my game. However, a few of these orbs have uses that beginners should definitely take advantage of. For instance:

Orbs of Alchemy upgrade normal items into rare items. They are perfect for those who have normal weapons or armour whose quality has been improved through the use of Blacksmith’s Whetstones or Armourer’s Scraps. Beginners should use these in conjunction with Whetstones or Scraps on their normal items to create more powerful gear. These are pretty uncommon to find on the field, so if you get one, save it for when you’ve upgraded the quality on your normal items before applying it. Or you could also trade it with vendors to get new skill gems or rare, unidentified items.

Now, these orbs are cool! Applying an Orb of Chance to an item upgrades it to a random rarity. So you can end up with a Magic, a Rare or even a Unique item, just by applying it to a normal item! This is a commonly found currency, so it shouldn’t take very long to find one. I used one on my witch’s Goat’s Horn that I picked up and it transformed into a Rare item! Orbs of Chance can be used on just about any item, regardless of the rarity, but you run the risk of getting an item of lesser rarity. Sometimes, though, the rewards outweigh the risks, especially if you have several orbs on hand.

Additional Tips 

Here are some extra tips that will help make your journey an easier one:

In the Submerged Passage, take a Sapphire Ring with you. The extra Cold resistance will keep you from getting iced from the Cold-elemental enemies in the area.

Upgrade your flasks as soon as you are able to. I made the mistake of sticking with the initial flasks. I didn’t last very long in further areas.

There’s also a quest in town in which a Quicksilver flask is rewarded. This increases your movement speed for a limited time when used and refills the same way as life and mana flasks. Get it ASAP.
